1. Pick the right destination. 

If you haven’t already, be sure to carefully consider your destination. What place will best fit your needs and personality? Looking to experience the bright lights and buzz of a big city? Try New York or Paris. Thinking about more of a beach getaway? Grab your sunnies and head for the Caribbean or Mexico. Adventure-seekers will love Costa Rica, Belize, or Utah. Food and wine lovers should focus on Italy or France. And for maximum family time, Florida, Hawaii, and the Caribbean are great options. 

2. Find the perfect villa.

3. Plan ahead. 

Sounds simple enough, but we’re not just talking about making reservations. Don’t wait until the last minute to think about the details. 

• Visiting another country? If necessary, renew your passport (and those of your fellow travelers), and apply for Global Entry to ensure an easy arrival back home. 
• Book a car rental or car and driver in advance. 
• Take the stress out of your airport arrival by arranging for fast track service (available in select destinations).
• Book local tours and excursions before your trip. This way, you won’t risk missing something because it’s sold out, and you’ll have one less thing to worry about while you’re on vacation.

4. Get travel insurance.

5. Make a list of what to bring.

And start now, so that as you think of things, you can jot them down. Here are some summer travel must-haves to get you started:

• Sunscreen. Obvious, yes, but it’s best to purchase it in advance, since it can be more expensive in many vacation destinations. Same goes for bug spray.
• A carry-on bag that can be used for the beach or other daily outings
• A light sweatshirt/jacket, in case it gets cool
• Flip-flops or slippers
• Reusable water bottle (Stay hydrated!)
